“ Second visit to Uchiko, sat at the sushi bar, and have a chef to cater to your personal food preferences was a good experience. There were several dishes which I strongly recommend to have second or more servings. Grilled scallop, tuna flight (from lean to the fattest), Hokkaido uni, lobster maki, and cod katsu were worth going for more. I was sated with a total of 16 different dishes. Service was excellent from the door to the chef, Kevin, and to the servers. The restaurant lights were dim, so as to create that specific ambience. ”

“ Visited on a weeknight celebrating date night and overall had a great experience trying the vegetarian tasting menu. We didn't know what to expect as no one before has reviewed the vegetarian tasting menu, so I'm writing a thorough review for anyone who is debating visiting. We've been to Uchi before for their tasting menu and this one was just as good. I liked that their were more hot dishes on this menu compared to Uchi. The ambiance here is also more romantic (dim lighting) Our waiter was great and knew to ask us about eggs and gelatin when visiting. The price point is very "fluid" is what our waiter told us. So we gave him a budget of $200 (for two people) and the plates came out based on that. He said we could let him know to stop bringing dishes if we got full. We did get full before finishing the last dishes but didn't get a chance to tell him. Instead we had some food to take home. A total number of fourteen dishes came to us (excluding drinks). Cold tastings: Gem lettuce -very unique dish. Two pieces of lettuce with puffed rice on top and a flavored sauce. Cucumber sunomono - would skip this one in the future. It is good but I usually don't eat that much cucumber alone. The cucumbers come with a puffed item on top and a sauce. Toro nuta - delicious avocado salad, comes with blueberry and nuts. Hot tastings: Brussel sprouts - Delicious! The sauce is the right amount of savory/sour. Cauliflower - I didn't love this one and would skip in the future. It is a blackened cauliflower dish with a mix of veggies and nuts. It was a little too heavily flavored for me. Kombu carrots - Similar to the cucumber dish, I would skip. It is a lot of carrots to eat by itself. Kinoko nabe - mushroom, tofu, egg, rice dish. Was heavy on the mushroom but delicious and filling. Nori potatoes - potatoes are buttery and on sweet end but tasty! Kabocha tempura - It tasted a little bitter. It was one of the last dishes we got and I couldn't stomach much more food especially a deep fried vegetable. All the nigiri dishes were great. Nasu nigiri - eggplant nigiri, delicious (warm) Kinoko nigiri - I think Uchi has this same one. It is heavy on the butter and salt so I didn't like it that much. Avocado Nigiri Tomato nigiri Inari Maki - the only maki dish we got, it was great! It came with an aioli type sauce, crispy center with a little spice. The flavors came together nicely. I was excited for fried milk dessert at the end but the waiter let us know it comes with gelatin (unlike the one at Uchi), so we skipped desert. They had a smore's and banana sorbet dessert available. The stand out dishes were the kinoko nabe, brussel sprouts, inari maki for me. Would definitely return! ”

“ We came in for lunch on Sunday. I can't believe I forgot that they serve lunch and was reminded for this family get together. It was the best sushi luncheon I've had in Houston. The Uchi restaurant group lives up to its reputation! We had many dishes that were all good. Here are the standout ones that are a must try: * Nigiri (you really can't go wrong with any nigiri here): * masu - sea bream * chutoro - fatty tuna * sake toro - salmon belly * A5 - Wagyu * kurodai - Japanese black bream * Negitoro - best that I've ever had! * Steak Frites - the steak is so tender, melts in your mouth! * Milk and Cereal - classic dessert that should not be skipped * Sundae - banana sorbet, looks ok but tastes so yummy, couldn't stop eating. Service was excellent, on point! Our server sent a few complimentary dishes, all were delicious! If you're in the mood for Japanese food or sushi for lunch, be sure to visit here! Valet or self-parking in the garage. ”

“ Fantastic experience sitting at the sushi bar. Asked the chef to plate a bunch of nigiri and he did a phenomenal job. Fish was extremely fresh. The rolls and drinks were great too! It is a higher end sushi restaurant, but felt like it was worth the cost. Inside is pretty intimate, I'd imagine it's a good date spot. ”

“ As soon as you walk in, you feel Like you are not in Houston. It felt cozy and intimate. A total Vibe. I was late, but they seated me and my party with absolutely no issues!!!! It's so well decorated very clean and contemporary. The lights are dim, so my pics maybe slightly compromised. However, the waitress...honey!!! She knew her menu and gave me two items on the house due to my indecisiveness. I love sushi and this gave me a whole new perspective on the possibilities. We loved our experience and I will be back. Next time I will try the patio seating. My favorite was the Hamachi Maki. Milk and Cereal was my favorite dessert. Umm make your reserv!! ”

“ Located in the Galleria area, Uchiko presents a variety of dishes inspired by Japanese cuisine, including sushi and grilled specialties, all in a more relaxed and casual atmosphere compared to Uchi. The interior features a modern and inviting design, blending traditional Japanese elements with contemporary aesthetics. With their lunch service now available, we decided to visit on a weekday to explore the lunch menu. We began our meal with the Hama Chili, a sashimi dish featuring yellowtail, ponzu, Thai chili, and orange wedges. I enjoyed the flavor combination but felt the sauce could benefit from a bit more citrus brightness or a tangier orange. Next, we tried a selection of nigiri: maguro, madai, hamachi and gyutoro. The fish was fresh, perfectly complemented by just the right amount of sauce. The wagyu was especially tender, boasting a delightful smoky flavor. For more cooked dishes, we sampled Brussels sprouts, roasted oysters, karaage, wagyu short rib sando, and steak fries. The roasted oyster was delicious, and the Brussels sprouts had a flavor and texture reminiscent of those found in ramen restaurants. I was surprised by the karaage, which was coated in a sweet and sour sauce; the chicken was juicy, and the crispy batter added a nice texture. The wagyu sando was solid, though its presentation leaned more towards Texas BBQ than Japanese cuisine. We found the wagyu sando at Kata to be superior in taste, presentation, and overall value. Lastly, the steak fries were a letdown; they arrived last and lacked the robust flavor compared to the gyutoro and sando prior. The steak and fries tasted quite ordinary and didn't leave a lasting impression. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch experience, and the lunch menu was solid. I would definitely consider returning another day to try the dinner menu for a complete experience. ”

“ Wow Wow Wow! Not even sure where to start... the food was just so so so good! Everything we ordered was absolutely off the charts. We started at a bar with some happy hour drinks - Nashi T&J is so good! Super refreshing! The vibe of the place is very cool too! The bartenders were very lively and awesome to joke around with. Once we sat down the experience got event better. Our waiter was great at recommending various dishes. Literally every single thing we ordered was sooooo delicious! This place has just made the top 3 in my Sushi Restaurant list. Can't wait to go back!!! ”
